Hence why digital audio had such a bad reputation. However with older digital multitracks and DAWs this WAS a concern because if the internal processing wasn't up to par, you could end up with some really harse/brittle/cold sounding audio. At least to the point that there would be very few that could hear the diffrence, and to be one of those few you wouldn't be asking if there is a diffrence and you'd probably have a top of the line Monitoring environment and system, but even that might be a strech because the diffrence is probably below the noise floor of even the quietest DAC. My post is still kind of irrelevent only because I believe that most DAWs handle the internal processing at pretty much the same level of quality.
I didn't mention that only because someone already had. This default volume diffence, is actually only the "stereo pan law" that the programs default to. To get more specific about what you mention.
